Gajah Makan: Ambush @ Takashimaya

Harlow, if you are looking for a place to eat great tasting pasta then this place is for you. This place is actually owned by the previous owner of the Pastamania franchise. This is his new establishment and it has brought quite a crowd. This place was recommended by my own flesh and blood(family i mean, hehe) and knowing him, if he say the place is worth checking out then it is worth checking out. So I went there to try the food first hand and like the previous time I ordered the so called "Chef specialty". Moving on...

Food ordered:
Japanese Baby Scallops in Fish Roe Cream Sauce and Seaweed. (Linguine)

First Look:
When I saw how big the bowl was I was amazed until I saw what was in the bowl. The bowl was only less than a quater filled. However, the scallops were pretty ample for a single serving.

Taste:
The linguine was cooked to perfection, the pasta just melts in your mouth. It is not overcooked that it becomes mushy but it is also not undercook that it is hard like strings. In addition with the cream sauce, everything was just so smooth it made baby food look bad. At first, I thought that the cream sauce was abit undersalted, that was until I bit the fish roe that was incorporated into the sauce. The saltiness (if that is even a word) was then just brilliant. The cream sauce was strong enough that it balances out the fishy taste of the roe, instead of the roe just overpowering the taste buds. All was well, that was until I ate the scallops. I find the scallops slighty overcooked so the scallops was a bit elastic but since the scallops were small they could be eaten in one bite so it was like eating gummy bears.

The verdict:
So in all, the pasta was great, the service was abit lagging but then again it was a busy period for them. Nice ambience, the bar seats was an interesting touch. A place where you can eat good pasta with the greatest of friends. The selection is quite wide and they have even added a rissotto menu since the last time I was there that I find intereesting to try out sometime. (Anybody to accompany me? Hehe..)

Transfer Window Action...

Today, I found out a very talented and creative player had moved from being a free agent to a new team. That free agent was a huge target for my team. However, no matter how I try to convince that player to come my team, we just could not agree on terms and condition. Now, that player has move on to a much bigger club. If you wondering how I felt after I found out the news, maybe this survey will help you...

Disappointed? Definitly...
Frustrated? Of course...
Aghast? Like DUH...
Discontented? Without a doubt...
Heart-broken? Shattered...
Sad? YES!!
Angry?....not really....
Furious? Surprisingly no....

Ok, I think you get the point. That player is very important to me but well you can't always get what you want, but you know what, I'm not angry. Maybe a little(hey, who likes rejection). Because I know the owner of the other team, he is a good friend of mine. Of course, I am jealous that he got the player and I'm left with scraps but hey, I am really glad for him. I know now that his team is equipped with the necessary talents to go all the way to the top. I will probably be relegated but hey, its good to have friends in high places :P. Really, it was a big loss for my team and finding a replacement will be a difficult task, but I will probably take it as challenge. As for that player, well...I would just have to wait for another opportunity, but at least I know that player is going to a team that will fully appreciate the talent. Rather than going to a team owned by a big-headed girl and would probably suffer rather than excell. A massive loss for me but a HUGE gain for my friend. I wish his team all the best and hope they succeed. As for my team...well I still have people with talent, just need to find another player that can compliment that. Oh well...back to the drawing board. Sigh...but I'm still smiling. :D

Here are a few nursery rhymes that my friends and I try to translate to malay. It does not rhyme but if you understand the tone of the word it is funny two times over. Anyway, enjoy...

seperti mutiara di langit...
Kelap - kelip, kelap - kelip, bintang yang kecil,
aku heranlah apa kebendanya kau ni...

Jack and Jill
~~~~~~~~~
Jack dan Jill panjat bukit,
untuk ambil sebaldi air...
Jack jatuh, pecah kepala
dan Jill ikut tergolek...
Baa Baa Black Sheep
Baa baa kambing hitam,
Ya tuan, Ya tuan, tiga beg penuh..
Satu untuk tuan, satu untuk puan dan lagi satu untuk budak di lorong...
Hope you enjoy these rhymes. Stay tuned as next time my friends will try to attempt to translate, Old MacDonald, Three Blind Mice and...who knows.
Brilliant or "Brilliant"...
Inspired by a true story...
At the start of school, Alex saw this girl from across the room. He was mesmerised by her beauty but he was not the type of guy to go up to a girl and ask her phone number and by statistics show with his appearance and being in Singapore that type of gesture is sure to fail. However he was determine to find out her name and even find a chance to get her phone number. So he played it cool, and he finally found an opening. Apparently, in school this girl is quite close to a few of her classmates. So his plan was, make friends with her classmates and sooner or later, he will have her personal information. His plan actually work, although her classmate was so irritating he endured, and sure enough he gotten the girl's name. It was Iris. However, it took him a year for that. Another year later, Iris actually added him on the live messenger. He was through the roof. He knows his plan was working so he stuck to it and sure enough few weeks later, Iris gave Alex her handphone number. Now, Alex have the chance to be closer to Iris even though it took 2 whole years. But there was something that Alex did not plan on. Iris was in love with another guy and Alex was heartbroken. He knew all his work was for nothing and he was stuck with that classmate of hers. Irritating. So he tried to move on, but he could not stop thinking of Iris. What's worse, is that everytime he meets that classmate of hers who happen to be his friend by now, she is there.
Alex made use of his "friend" to get to Iris. I salute him because his plan actually worked but he wasted 2 years and now he is feeling the pain everytime he sees her. How can you forget something you see everyday. He pretends not to see her not to acknowledge her but the cut just keeps getting deeper and deeper. With added bonus, he is stuck with an irritating guy as a friend. Alex keep telling me that it is only a year left before graduation and he wouldn't see her anymore. One year takes a long time to fly especially if you are suffering. So what's the moral of the story? Well, I have my own theory but you can have your own...
Thanks for reading...
Something Off My Mind...
This is somoething I created for a school project. It may not make sense to you but it is actually a very, very short song about choices. Anyway, just read...
His eyes are wide open
His heart is released
His choices are
the deep sea or the abyss
His body is black
His soul is white
His mind is grey
She comes into sight
The silence was appalling
Her presence was bewitching
The encounter was awaking
His eyes are wide open...no more...
Gajah Makan: Manhattan Fish Market @ Plaza Singapura
Hey, this is my first review of places to eat. Well, it is not actually a review but more of my point of view...anyway, today's place was Manhattan Fish Market. Since I was hungry for lunch and wanted to eat something a little more exotic then usual, my guest recommended that I try that place since he had experience eating there. At first, I was reluctant to go to a "fish" place due to prior experiences in other establishment. However, when I reach the entrance of the restaurant, I was quite captivated with the atmosphere. It was quiet(maybe because it was a weekday), the waiter that approach us was nice, and the seating capacity was not alot but the arranged in such a way that even a big guy like me can manuever so easily which is actually a plus point for me. Anyway on with the food...
Food ordered:
Garlic Butter Mussells (Appetiser)
Norwegian King Salmon with butter sauce (My main course)
Grilled Platter for one (My guest's main course)
Choclate Mudpie(My dessert)
The food was served quite fast after we ordered. The garlic butter mussells were first to come, my guest was not really a big fan of mussells so I practically ate all the mussells but when my guest tasted the garlic butter sauce, he just couldn't have enough and I agree. There was a fine balance between the garlic and butter taste and eaten with the baguette given was such a great start. Then came the main courses. I was not expecting much because I know in Singapore, fresh tasting salmon is difficult to find. However, when I tasted the salmon, it was not so flakey, or too hard. It was nicely cooked, but the sauce that came with it was a bit bland(maybe it is suppose to be that way). The amount of chips given was ample with a wedge of lemon and tomato which I found hilarious but thats just me. Back to the salmon, if taste quite fresh but it only taste better when the lemon juice is squeezed on it. Oh, and they do give extra condiments that you can add to your dish. There was three, sweet garlic chilli sauce, tartar sauce and preserved garlic (no idea why so many garlic) but my guest and I just use the garlic butter sauce that was from the mussells (:P). My guest was kind enough to share his squid and prawn, and I find the prawn, well cooked but the squid was very soft (as in not suppose to be like that) that could be caused by bad squid or simply not cooked long enough. Then came dessert, which only I had. When the mudpie was served to me, I liked the presentaion and couldn't wait to eat. Just one problem, the ice cream part of the mudpie was still frozen solid. No matter how hard I push my spoon, I just couldn't cut the pie :( . So I had to chat with my guest for awhile before the ice cream actually defrost a little so that i could eat the pie properly.
The verdict:
To me I think the Manhattan Fish Market is really pleasant surprise for me. It is a great place to be bring your new girlfriend for a first date. The lighting was slightly dim-lighted so the atmosphere was a little romantic. It is good for dates and compare to other restaurants, the food is worth the money, because the food is ample and basically it is a good place if you have that seafood craving. I was disappointed that there was crab on the menu but there was lobster which I find tempting to try but not anytime soon...hehe. Overall, great seafood and a nice place to bring good friends and company. If I had to rate it...maybe 3 - 3.5 out of 5. :D
Dreams are why I've got an headache...
The first:
I was home, I was free but there she was and I was...me...
There was no smile, no emotion, just her face in front of mine. I blinked and I was awake, thinking it was just my vivid imagination.
The second:
New house, new car, and there she was again and everything else disappeared. She was almost smiling but I awoke as I blinked. Again...twice in two nights in a row. Maybe it was just a coincedence. I only had about 5 hours of sleep in two days, but I was afraid, even to close my eyes. There had to be a logical explanation....
The third:
I'm in school, I was tired so I napped even though I was suppose to be doing my school project. Everything was white, then grey, then black. I turned around and again there she was...
I so shocked I practically jumped from my seat and even my group mates were shocked(ok, maybe I am exaggerating here..) Not again...
The fourth:
My memory for this one is slightly bleak and so I can't really describe but she was there and again I awoke...
The fifth:
She was there....she sees me...she's crying, and no matter what I do, I can't make her smile. When I woke up, I had this guilty feeling in my stomach. It was a very uneasy feeling. Am I going to hurt her, or is it just my imagination...it is best if I just stay away. (Ya right...easier said than done)
The sixth:
The latest so far but the most weird yet pleasant one. In this one, I lost my two front teeth, and was wondering how the hell that happen. Then there she was, smiling, laughing, happy. (I know some people are going to hate me for this but I have to say it). Even with my two front teeth gone, seeing her smile and laugh was much better then seeing her cry...I never want to see her cry, especially if it is because of me. Damn my sensitivity...why can't i get rid of her.
Six times. I hope there will not be anymore, but one can't predict the future. I lost so much sleep because of these dreams, so I hope writing them down could help me further analyse and soon figure out an answer...
